These are the public and nonprofit bodies in Florida that help two or more owners start a business together, fund it and settle it when they disagree. Every one is free or low cost, and every link goes to the organization itself.

This is general information as of October 2026; a lawyer in Florida should read your actual agreement.

Florida's partnership rules at a glance

  • The law. General partnerships follow the Revised Uniform Partnership Act of 1995 (Fla. Stat. §620.81001). LLCs have Florida's own 2013 act (Fla. Stat. §605.0101). LLPs and LLLPs are both open to any partnership. All 50 states compared.
  • The cost. An LLC files for $125, then owes a $138.75 annual report every year between January 1 and May 1 (a $400 late fee, then dissolution by the third Friday in September). An LLP registers for $25 and renews for $25 a year. Fees in every state.
  • Non-competes. Enforceable if reasonable in time, area and line of business; courts must narrow an overbroad one rather than void it (Fla. Stat. §542.335). The 2025 CHOICE Act lets a high-earning employee's noncompete run up to 4 years. Every state's rule.
  • When a court can end it. An LLC can be dissolved for deadlock, illegal or fraudulent conduct, or wasted assets; the company or the other members can stop it by buying the petitioner out at fair value within 90 days (Fla. Stat. §605.0702, §605.0706). Grounds by state.
